Nineteen Cents Short of a Paradigm

30,000 miles

I bought the car with 24,800 miles on 31 MAY 2024 – 455 days ago. So I’m averaging 11.42 miles a day… Still a daily driver.

I did add about a hundred and twenty miles today in an attempt to burn off a half a tank of gas…

See, I only put Shell V-Power Nitro+ in the car because it really makes a difference on a tightly wound supercharged V8. Unfortunately Nitro+ runs a bit over $4 a gallon currently – so I have a “Fuel Rewards” card and that gives somewhere between $0.05 and $0.25 off per gallon depending on how much and what type of gas you buy.

Basically you have to do six fill-ups (10 gallons minimum per fill-up) per 90 day period to get “Gold” status, which is the 5-10 cents per gallon discount, and twelve fill-ups to achieve “Platinum” – and each fill-up of Nitro+ counts as two fill-ups.

I’m generally in the “Gold” level that gives 5-10 cents off a gallon because my only real driving is back and forth to work, which is about 3 miles each way. And being as the Hellcat only holds about 18 gallons total, I have to be below a half a tank to hit the required 10 gallon minimum.

So it can take me three weeks to get under a half tank to get the minimum fill-up to count towards the discounts…

Anyway, today was the last day in this 90-day period, and I was one fill-up of Nitro+ away from hitting the “Platinum” level – so I decided to go burn some $4 a gallon gas to get to the next tier of savings for the next 90 days…

I drove down to Parker, got on C-470 northbound, drove around to I-25 at 144th, then south to 136th to the Long John Silvers for lunch – and then reversed the process.

This did get me down to just under a half a tank, so I headed over to the local Shell station.

And was only able to squeeze in 9.8 gallons…

(sigh)

The other benefit to the Fuel Rewards account is the app allows me to use my Apple card for the purchase – directly – so that gives me 2% back as well.

And every penny counts when you only get about 14MPG in town. 🙂
