About

Howdy!

You’ve somehow stumbled over my little cul-de-sac in the vast series of tubes that is the Internet – so, welcome!

This is the “About” page and assuming you have no idea who I am, here’s a brief rundown of me, and the things I will undoubtedly talk about…

  • “Ri’Hahn Na’Horain” is the name of a character I played in a role-playing game in the early 90’s. Said character became hugely popular in local gaming circles, so when I was setting up my first Internet domain in 1996, it was what I settled on.
  • Rihahn.com, where you are now, is that domain. I let the domain lapse in 2005 and it got picked up by some Asian tech company who then let it lapse in 2015. I picked it back up in 2015 and have used it on and off again for blogging ever since.
  • In life you can measure your progress along the timeline by how long you have to scroll to get to your birth year on a web form – getting to 1969 can take a bit – accordingly, the majority of my frame of reference is the 80’s, 90’s, and 00’s. After about 2005 everything for me finally settled down and therefore isn’t as interesting, so I tend to wax poetic about the world from 20+ years ago.
  • I’m former Navy, submarines. I was on the crew that built/commissioned the USS Pennsylvania (SSBN 735) so I have a zillion tales regarding Groton and New London Connecticut and the Electric Boat (EB) shipyard in the 80’s.
  • I’m the CIO for a small tech company located in Denver Colorado. I’ve been with the company for 20+ years now, so there’s lots of stories there as well.
  • I’ve been doing the computer thing since the late 70’s, and I am into retro-computing mostly because “I was there, man”. My first computer experience was my father’s OSI C1P in ’78, and my first personal computer was a Sinclair ZX-81 that I built from a kit in ’81. I still have a lot of my old computers from decades past, and I’ll ramble on about ‘the good old days’ of computing quite a bit.
  • I’m into role-playing games and currently maintain a setting that I’ve been using for my games since the early 80’s. Most of the character and world building stuff you will find here is based on this setting.
  • I’m also a bit of a gear head and enjoy fiddling with cars. My current daily driver is a black on black 2017 Dodge Challenger Hellcat nicknamed “Warlock”. Over the years I’ve had lots of interesting cars and I occasionally talk about those too.

So that’s a quick ‘about me’. As I post stuff here, if you have questions or just want to chat about a topic, feel free to reply to any post!
