Two things done on the Hellcat over the last few days; coil packs and catch can.
For the coil pack I started with the hard ones first – the passenger side where I had to dismount and move the hard lines for the supercharger intercooler to even see the coils…
I argued with the one closest to the firewall for about 30 minutes before determining a few things:
- My gorilla hands are simply too big to work in a space that small.
- I make enough money that if a thing isn’t solvable in 30 minutes to an hour, I can just pay someone younger (and smaller) to do it.
So I dropped off the car at my local Dodge dealer – the one with the SRT techs – with the new coil packs and to do the 30,000 mile once-over.
Six hours and $610 later and I can check off that task.
Here’s some photos to both show off the new coil packs and to illustrate just how cramped it is to work on them…

Once I got the car home I tore into the first of two boxes from Corsa Performance; this box contained the new catch can – which really should have come on the engine from the factory…

What this doodad does is separate the oil and water vapor in the PCV system instead of just dumping it into the intake to build up on the valves.
Forced induction cars really should come with these things from the factory – but they add maintenance in the form of needing to be checked and drained occasionally, and in cold weather if they aren’t maintained they can freeze up and cause crankcase pressure issues.
Anyway, two down and one more to go… Right now CORSA Performance is making me a custom carbon fiber intake, which should be here either later this week or next week.
I might order a new throttle body to install when I put that on – I need to consult the accountant first though. 🙂
