Waylens

A couple of posts ago I mentioned that I’d purchased a new in box Waylens Horizon – and it did in fact arrive today, in one piece even!

But, as soon as I got it out of the box I noticed something unusual:

This is a Waylens Horizon:

And this is what was in the box:

It turns out that what I got was a test mule from the Horizon’s development. It runs the internal firmware correctly (even updated to the latest version), and talks to the iOS app just fine…

What it doesn’t do is take very good video.

I’m not going to return it or ask for my money back – it was a sealed unit in legitimate Waylens company packaging and there’s really no way the fellow I bought it from could have known it was pre-production hardware.

Here’s a quick video I took once I got everything set up and the mount / wiring installed in the car:

All of the overlays work correctly and it does in fact do all of the Waylens “stuff” that made it famous – it’s just got a weird pre-production imager and lens on it.

Kind of a collector’s item I guess.

Anyway, I’ve ordered another New In Box Waylens Horizon that is in the newer cylindrical packaging versus a velvet lined box. That gives me a few spare parts and a really cool conversation piece. 🙂
