On the way in today I was leisurely motoring down west-bound Iliff between Chambers and Blackhawk, enjoying the lack of traffic and some cool morning air with the windows down and the stereo up – when I look in the rearview and see some low-slung sports car barreling towards me.
I figured I’d give him some fun and dropped the hammer as he approached, and unlike your average hotrod Beemer M4 he continued on past me – albeit slowly.
Getting to the light at Blackhawk he rolled down the window and exclaimed “Nice Challenger, needs more power!”
I kinda felt bad because I had to ask what he was driving – I could see it was a BMW, but they’re all kind of same-y looking as opposed to the Challenger… There are aboriginal tribes in deep Africa that know a Challenger on sight…
Anyway, turns out it was a 2025 BMW M8 “Gram Coupe” Competition that he’d had tuned – said it was about 800 horses.
I mentioned that it wasn’t quite fair as he had at least 30mph on me when I punched it, so we decided to have a fair go at it… I put the car into race-mode and we had a quickie between Blackhawk and 225 – and he got me by a nose at the on-ramp…
The M8 is definitely fast. Really fast actually.
So, the moral of the story is if you drop $150,000 on a bleeding edge twin-turbo V8 Beemer and then another $30,000 in mods and tuning, you can go slightly faster than a ten year old Challenger Hellcat.
Or you could just buy three Hellcats. 🙂
